Shopify Developer (Mid-Level)

Shopify Remote Deadline: until 30 October 2025

Job Overview

Most Lab is a design-driven studio that builds Shopify stores merchants rave about. You’ll own both the storefront and the stack underneath—turning slow, bloated themes into sub-second experiences and writing custom apps when the app store can’t keep up. If you speak fluent Liquid, JavaScript, and AWS, keep reading.

Key Responsibilities

  • Refactor legacy themes (Dawn, Impulse, Turbo, etc.) to 90+ Lighthouse across Core Web Vitals while preserving merchant-friendly drag-and-drop sections.
  • Prototype and ship custom storefront features: advanced filtering with Algolia, bundle builders, subscription upsells via Recharge, tiered pricing, and checkout UI extensions.
  • Implement headless storefronts with Hydrogen + Oxygen or Next.js + Storefront API when performance or design freedom demands it.
  • Write automated tests (unit, integration, e2e) using Vitest, Jest, and Cypress to keep regressions at zero.
  • Profile database queries, optimize Liquid loops, lazy-load images, split JS bundles, and prune rogue apps to keep mobile TTI < 2.5 s.
  • Design CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, Docker, and Terraform to deploy themes and apps to staging and production with a single push.
  • Monitor uptime and revenue-critical metrics (Grafana, Datadog) during flash sales; debug and patch issues before the client notices.
  • Collaborate daily with designers and growth teams in Figma, Linear, and Slack huddles—no broken-telephone specs.
  • Document architecture decisions (ADRs) and mentor junior devs through code reviews and pair programming.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of professional experience building and maintaining Shopify themes (Liquid, JSON templates, Sections Everywhere) and/or Shopify apps (REST & GraphQL Admin APIs).
  • Strong JavaScript (ES2023) and TypeScript skills; comfortable with functional and async patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with at least two headless stack: Hydrogen + Oxygen, Next.js + Storefront API, or Nuxt + Shopify API.
  • Proven ability to optimize Core Web Vitals: image CDNs, critical CSS, code-splitting, deferred scripts, and server-side rendering.
  • Experience with Node.js server frameworks (Express, NestJS, Remix) and cloud deployment (AWS ECS, Lambda, Vercel, or Fly.io).
  • Familiarity with Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and automated testing workflows.
  • Solid understanding of web security (OWASP Top 10), GDPR compliance, and PCI-DSS basics.
  • Comfortable with Git workflows (trunk-based or GitFlow) and peer code reviews.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; able to explain technical trade-offs to non-developers.
  • Portfolio or GitHub links showcasing at least three custom theme and one private or public Shopify app.
